The Black Creek area was used for extensive logging operations early in the 20th Century. In the 1930s the area was farmed by German speaking Mennonite farmers whose descendants continue to inhabit the area. The area surrounding what began as a small agricultural community continues to be used for mixed farming uses that include dairy, vegetable, and meat production. Also prevalent to the surrounding area is an abundance of fish and wildlife.
