The Hamlet of Merville is located in the northern part of the Comox Valley. It was named after Canada’s First World War field headquarters in France. After the war, the government offered land grants to soldiers who relocated with their families to this unincorporated community and mainly agricultural area. Merville is located a short 10-15 minute drive north of Courtenay.
If you are looking for a rural Comox Valley home, whether it be a country plantation or a farm, the Merville area may be for you. Take the time to drive around the back roads of the surrounding countryside. Most of the surrounding rural area is made up of farmland and the Agricultural Land Reserve land. Some of the areas are wide open and other parts are heavily wooded. Some offer magnificent views of the nearby Comox Glacier. Remember that much of this area is in the Agricultural Land Reserve protected area so be sure to check the zoning of the Merville real estate that you are interested in. Country living in the Comox Valley just down the road from the larger urban areas!
